Shrink Your Image

The short version

You upload images, we make them smaller, you download them, and about 12 hours later they are gone. Nobody looks at them and nothing is kept. There is no tracking script, no advertising and no analytics on this site. The free plan needs no account. A few cookies keep the site working, and they are all described below.

What we receive

The image files you drop on the page, and the information any web server receives with a request: your IP address, browser type, the time of the request, and the address requested, which contains the name of the file you uploaded. That request information lives in our hosting provider’s standard server logs and is used only to keep the service running. We also record your IP address in our own database, with a count of the images processed from it that day, so the free plan cannot be used to process unlimited images from one network. That record holds nothing but the address, the date and a number, and it is deleted after three days. Separately, we keep daily totals for the whole site, such as how many times the page was opened and how many images were processed. Those are plain numbers and hold nothing about any visitor.

If you subscribe to a paid plan, we also receive your email address, and from our payment processor an identifier for your subscription and the date it renews.

What happens to your files

Your images travel over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our server, where they are processed into the formats you asked for. Your files are stored in a temporary folder tied to your browser session so that you can download them. That folder is deleted automatically about 12 hours after its last activity. Choosing Clear list starts a new session; the old files still expire on the same schedule.

We do not open, view, analyse, back up, train anything on, or share your images. Output files have their metadata removed: camera details, location tags and embedded thumbnails do not carry over.

Cookies

This site sets three cookies, all first-party, all necessary for the service to work, and our hosting provider sets one more. We use none of them for advertising or tracking.

syi_free
Counts the images you have compressed in the current session, so the free plan’s allowance can be applied. It holds a random identifier and nothing about you. It is a session cookie: closing the tab ends it. The matching count on our side is deleted within 24 hours.
syi
Set only if you sign in to a paid plan, so the site knows the plan is yours. It holds a random identifier, not your email address. It lasts 90 days, or until you log out.
syi-zip
Set for one minute while a Download all zip is being prepared, so the page can tell that the download has started. It holds the single character 1 and nothing else, and the page deletes it as soon as the download begins.
hcdn
Set by our hosting provider’s network, Hostinger, to route your requests to the right server. We do not set it or read it. It is a session cookie: closing the browser ends it.

Your output settings (the convert toggle and the formats you ticked) are saved in your browser’s local storage, on your device only, so the page remembers them next time. Nothing is sent to us from that storage.

If you have a paid plan

We store your email address, which plan you are on, an identifier from our payment processor, and the date your subscription renews. That is the whole record. There is no password: signing in works by a link sent to your address.

We use your address to send the sign-in link, a receipt, a notice before an annual renewal, and nothing else. There is no marketing mail and no newsletter.

To get a copy of what we hold about you, email support@shrinkyourimage.com from the address on the account. We will send it to that address.

To have your account and email address deleted, email support@shrinkyourimage.com from the address on the account. We will delete it and confirm. Cancelling a subscription is separate and is done from your account page.

Third parties

The service runs on servers operated by our hosting provider, Hostinger, which handles the connection and keeps the server logs described above. Email is delivered through Hostinger’s mail servers.

Payments are processed by Stripe. If you subscribe, Stripe receives your payment details directly and we never see or store your card number; Stripe tells us only that a subscription exists, whose email address it belongs to, and when it renews. Stripe’s own privacy policy governs what it does with your payment data.

No other third party receives your files or your request information. This site carries no advertising, analytics or social-media scripts.
